Putting purpose into practice.

An event people remember. A place where young people can belong. A leader better equipped to make the next decision. The experience behind Athlos connects these outcomes with the people, partnerships and organizational work that make them possible..

HOW WE WORK

01 · SPORTING EVENTS

The work behind the experience.

A national championship brings sporting objectives, commercial commitments and a host community into the same project.

2026 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship

Building the commercial groundwork.

For the championship hosted by Trinity Western University at the Langley Events Centre, Johannes supported early sponsorship planning: developing the strategy, building presentation decks and packages, and contributing to initial partner conversations.

His contribution was to the preparation phase, before event execution. The outputs were a clearer sponsorship approach and practical materials for partner outreach.

WHY THIS MATTERS TO YOUR ORGANIZATION
Event commitments must connect with what the host can deliver. Commercial planning belongs alongside decisions about people, volunteers, responsibilities and resources, so the participant experience and the organization’s objectives can support one another.

02 · SPORT & COMMUNITY

A place to take part. A reason to belong.

In 2026, TeamUp Canada connected U-Sport Volleyball student-athletes with communities in Paraguay through sport and practical service.

2026 TeamUp Cup - Competing to Serve

Local children and families were the focus. TWU’s published account describes 70 athletes and coaches taking part in an initiative involving local organizations, schools and community partners.

  • Sport activities and a youth volleyball clinic.

  • Work on a soccer field and classroom foundations.

  • Practical support for a community nutritional centre.

Johannes served as TeamUp’s Managing Director for many years. In TWU’s account, he described the centre’s role as a meeting place where children could play, connect and find support.

THE ORGANIZATIONAL LESSON
Participation creates an opportunity. Continuity requires local relationships, capable people and resources beyond a single visit. That connection between meaningful experience and ongoing delivery informs Athlos’s approach to community value.

03 · DEVELOPING LEADERS

Developing the leaders Canadian sport needs.

Stronger organizations need people who can lead them. For Athlos, supporting access to sport management education is a practical commitment to the capability of Canadian sport.

Johan Cruyff Institute

Through its founder’s work as JCI’s Canada contact, Athlos helps professionals and organizations connect with relevant education opportunities. The focus is on the responsibilities leaders carry: governance, marketing, commercial development and organizational decision-making.

A CONTRIBUTION IN PRACTICE

Bringing education into the leadership conversation.

At League1 Canada Converge in November 2025, Johannes presented Johan Cruyff Institute and joined a leadership panel. The forum brought club professionals together around leadership, operations, marketing and shared learning.

This commitment is expressed through the work of connecting people, contributing to discussions and helping leaders identify relevant learning opportunities.
